Volunteer Application
If you are interested in volunteering with us you will first need to come to one of our volunteer orientations. After attending an orientation, you will need to fill out our short volunteer application, after you complete the application you should hear from us within two business days. Please look over the PHFS Volunteer Handbook and volunteer rules before you fill out your application as you will be expected to know and follow them when you volunteer with us.
Volunteer With Us
Portland Homeless Family Solutions relies on volunteers every day at Goose Hollow Family Shelter (our night shelter) and Thirteen Salmon Family Center (our day shelter). Our volunteer opportunities can be as flexible or regular as you need them to be. Try volunteering once, if you like it sign up again, you choose the amount of time you want to commit to our families. With the availability of volunteer positions almost 24 hours a day you can find a position that will fit into your busy schedule.
We value the diversity of our volunteers and have opportunities that are suitable for just about anyone from singles, small groups, students, families, seniors, and youth. Meet Some of Our Volunteers!
Group Volunteering
If you are part of a club or organization that may be interested in volunteering, consider adopting one night a month at the shelter! When a group adopts a night, they are committing themselves to coming to a volunteer orientation and then filling all of the positions at the shelter on the night that they adopt. This is an excellent opportunity for groups to come together and can make for an enriching volunteer experience. We require that groups adopting a night at the shelter make an ongoing commitment of at least 4 nights per year. The group size for adopting a night at the shelter should be between 6-12 volunteers.
If you are interested in a one-time volunteer opportunity at the shelter, you may be able to come and help with a cleaning project while the shelter is closed. For this project we would like a group of 8-15 volunteers.
